Wander Shots :: Q&A with News24 Travel

got asked to answer a Q&A for News24 Travel’s Wander Shots insert. thought i’d blog a link here cos it was fun to answer and as i was updating the blog, found old posts that relate to it…

Firstly… are you a member of the mile high club?
No. But if there was a mile long club involving trains I’d be the chairperson. I’m a little phobic about flying. Oddly the more I fly the more freaked out I get. From the minute the plane lifts off to the minute it comes to a standstill, I am mentally and emotionally preparing to die. Awesome. Luckily I can sleep anywhere, in any position. So that’s generally what I do.

Tell us about your most recent holiday?
Most of my travel lately has been local and I’ve been doing a ton of mini breaks – Chuchhaven, Hermanus, Robertson, Paternoster, Riebeek Kasteel … that sort of thing. The latest holiday that was a little longer was up the Garden Route, which I love. Lots of forest walking, driving and eating. And drinking. And snoozing. It was cold and raining so there was little beaching, which is what I love.

What is your greatest travel extravagance/indulgence?
Spas. I have spa’ed (Is that a word? It is now.) I have spa’ed in every country I’ve visited, barring the Southern Africa countries. I can spend an entire day moving between pool, steam room, sauna, herbal baths and massages.

Who would you least like to sit next to on a plane
A talker I don’t want to talk to or someone who smells. There are very few people who are actually both that ignorant and repugnant you can’t gleen some interesting information from them.
